Product Design:
Origami Chair
This chair was designed at the Deesigninstituttet in Oslo as an exploration of form, material, and digital creation. Using 3D modeling software, I developed a concept inspired by the precise folds and geometric elegance of Japanese origami. The design translates the lightness and structure of folded paper into a functional object, balancing sharp lines with a sense of flow.
An important part of the process was material research. Discovering the sustainability and strength of bamboo influenced the final direction, leading to a design that is both environmentally conscious and structurally efficient. Bamboo’s natural qualities support the clean, angular form while reinforcing the connection between nature and design.
To emphasize the chair’s sculptural lines, I worked with a contrasting color palette of black and warm orange-brown. This combination highlights the folds and edges, giving the chair a bold visual identity while maintaining a sense of balance and warmth.
The result is a piece that reflects both digital experimentation and traditional inspiration—where modern tools meet timeless craftsmanship principles.
